In this age of social media, this post makes a possibly unnecessary pitch for business cards, the most traditional of all promotional vehicles. Even as you’re vigorously promoting yourself out in the social ether, you shouldn’t discount the value of a well-designed business card.
Why do you want a good-looking business card? Here are three good reasons:
- Believe it or not, a lot of people save them, even organize them, and will actually pull yours out when the need arises.
- A business card efficiently gathers all your contact information in one place. And it can be easily passed on to someone who needs what you have to offer.
- If you hire a competent graphic artist, you’ll (hopefully) end up with a design that’s integral to your brand. And you need a brand. Even if you’re a one-person shop
My fourth reason is really more personal than anything else. Rather like a postage stamp, an attractively laid-out business card with a great logo is a miniature work of art.
Oh, one last word. I’m not a big fan of that glossy card stock so many people use. If you want to make a note or two about the person you met as I often do, it’s almost impossible to make an impression on that hard, shiny surface.
