I’ve always had a hard time seeking help or advice, thinking that I might perhaps get dinged for laziness or even a lack of character. (Ah, that stern New England upbringing!)
Fortunately, there’s a much healthier way to look at the situation. As Robbie Kellman Baxter of Peninsula Strategies, puts it, “Perspective is everything.” Sometimes you’re just too close to a situation to know the right thing to do. She notes that good leaders typically surround themselves with people who can offer an alternative view and also look beyond their organizations for help.
One of my New Year’s resolutions in 2012 is to start asking for help. It sounds like a smart way to go.
